No Summer Vacation for Special D

D has been busy this summer creating a buzz surrounding their five song EP, Over and Over, which released in April. The album has received great reviews, and the band will hit the road in August and September with a busy touring schedule. Special D also participated in the filming of a pilot for a new reality TV show called American Circus.

Comprised of talented alt-rockers Craig Felker (lead vocals), Jason Killebrew (drums), L.J. Granstaff (guitar) and Joel Purdy (bass), Special D has been playing together for three years, sharing the stage with successful artists such as Jars of Clay, Third Day, TobyMac, Family Force 5, Skillet, Jason Morant and DecembeRadio.

Their latest release finds the foursome creating even more buzz in the music industry. Produced by Ainslie Grosser (MuteMath, Rebecca St. James, Rush of Fools), the album has a sound reflective of who they are and the electricity of their live performance. Here is what a few reviews had to say:
“Kentucky-based rockers Special D have that uncanny ability to incorporate the raw energy of a live show into their recordings. That frenetic, feel-the-sweat energy makes for one incredible musical experience, even on a short five-track EP like Over and Over.” – Christianity Today, 4 stars;
“The results find charismatic front man Craig Felker and his cohorts turning in an incredibly inventive blend of raucous, Midwestern melodic rock, the surf-inspired sounds of Switchfoot and the ferocious guitars of Foo Fighters.” – CCM Magazine;
“Expect a lyrical spread addressing everything from pursuing dreams to shaking off sin, wrapped around relevant and relatable language for the spiritually and worldly minded.” – Christian Single, 4.5 stars;

Special D has a full tour schedule lined up, making stops in New York, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Illinois, Florida and Indiana. The band will perform at several music festivals with main stage performances at Rock the Light in Kansas City, Missouri, and Rock the Universe in Orlando, Florida. The unique opportunity for Special D to participate in filming for American Circus took the band to Peru, Ind., in July; the pilot currently is being shopped to networks. Special D performed in the center ring of the circus to a capacity crowd.  More details on this will be announced soon.
