Franklin's Rebirth Worth a Listen

ALBUM: The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin
ARTIST: Kirk Franklin
IN A PHRASE: Always original, Kirk Franklin offers another eclectic project that crosses all racial, denominational and musical boundaries.

Kirk Franklin returns with an eclectic mix of artists and styles, typical of this man on the forefront of modern gospel music.

The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin project includes live performances, studio cuts and mini-dramas that reveal the life of Kirk Franklin. Musically, this venture returns Kirk to his musical roots while giving way to new horizons and reaching out to teens in a language they can understand.

From a personal standpoint, I enjoy all types of music, but I tend to lean more toward a different style of Christian music, but listening to artists like Kirk makes me wish I could groove like that. Just 'cuz I'm a true-blue white boy don't mean I can't enjoy a little gospel!

He kicks it off by asking the audience to "make some Holy Ghost crazy noise," and they do just that with the CD's musical opener Hosanna.

Pastor Shirley Caesar joins Kirk and the choir for a get-up-on-your-feet-and-shout number called Caught Up.

911, a moving phone conversation song between Kirk and Bishop T.D. Jakes, was written for those affected by September 11. This song creates hope and provides the answer to the question "Where was God?" He's right there where you are.

One of gospel music's household names, Donnie McClurkin, joins Kirk, Crystal Lewis, and Jaci Velasquez for the studio version of The Blood Song.

We head back to the auditorium in Houston for the energetic Brighter Day, with a rippin' bass lick!

He Reigns includes a trumpet version of the Rich Mullins' classic, Awesome God. You've never heard a Rich Mullins song performed like this!

When I Get There is an enthusiastic reminder of Kirk's beginning with The Family. It brings back fond memories to this dedicated fan.

The live performance of The Blood Song includes the gripping voices of Yolanda Adams and Alvin Slaughter.

My final word...

Oh, wait a minute. ... I just found something! What is this? A hidden track intended for "spiritually mature audiences only!" Kirk pulls a fast one by adding another special guest to the mix! I won't ruin the surprise for you. You can find out for yourself!

So my final word...

There's not much more I can say! Just don't miss The Rebirth of Kirk Franklin!

Until Next Time...
