Praying Grandmothers – Beloved Women – September 17, 2020

READ: “And Hannah prayed and said, ‘My heart exults in the Lord; my horn is exalted in the Lord. My mouth derides my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation. There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.” (1 Samuel 2:1-2 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: When we pray for our children, our prayers last for generations. I am often told stories of my very religious and strict great grandmother. She prayed day and night for her 12 children. All of her children were steadfast in their faith and walk with God. My grandmother prayed day and night. She read her bible consistently and was always on the phone praying with a church member. My grandmother prayed fervently for her seven children. All seven went to college and most have advanced degrees. All seven are steadfast in their walk with God. All are alive. None have been in trouble with the law.

My mother wakes up praying and shares her love for God to others. She is steadfast in her walk with God. I truly believe that the prayers of my great grandmother, grandmother, and mother have covered the generations of my family. Their love and petitions to God have carried us through. Isn’t it powerful to have praying women in our lives?

Imagine the prayers of Hannah, a powerful woman of God who prayed fervently for a child. She prayed that her child would be a servant of God. Her petitions to God thousands of years ago have carried us through. Isn’t it powerful to have praying women in our lives?

PRAY: Dear God, help me to pray and cover my family for generations to come. Bless my children, their children, and their children’s children. Wrap your loving arms around our family, be our guide, and be our shield through the years. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT: Are my prayers intentional and meeting the spiritual needs of my family? Have I prayed for discernment to see and hear their needs with a loving heart and open ears?

SHARE: Prayer is a tangible display of God’s love and protection.
