Seeing God’s Kindness in His Children

“For the mountains shall depart and the hills be removed, but My kindness shall not depart from you, nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you. Isaiah 54:10 NKJV

Have you ever noticed that trials either bring out the good in people, or they bring out the bad? This year has been tough, and we are barely into the second half. I am amazed at the overwhelming kindness that has been extended towards me in these past months.

It is easy for someone to show kindness to me because I am legally blind. Normally, they can simply point me in the right direction or fix me a plate at the buffet. Recently, people have sacrificed their treasured time to help in various ways.  This year, my husband and I have been apart more than any time in our eighteen years of marriage.

When his brother became critically ill, my husband left suddenly to be by his side. I found myself facing situations I had never faced before. I found people stepping up to the plate and helping. I found God’s kindness shining through His children. Kindness motivates the willing heart to activate the helping hand.

My mountain of trouble continued to escalate, but the tender concern of others quickly demolished it. Kindness from old friends and kindness from strangers. God is rich in lovingkindness and so are His children.

They saw a sister in need. They saw a sister in distress. They became the hands and feet of their heavenly Father, showering me with their spiritual fruit. Their love, kindness, goodness and gentleness gave me joy and peace.

Now I will clothe myself in the garment of kindness toward others. I must extend that helping hand, that sympathetic ear, that shoulder to cry on. I will look for the need of someone and meet it with kindness. Will you join me in being a shining example of God today?

As God brings to mind the names of those who have exhibited kindness to you, ask Him to bless them. Who can you be kind to today?

Lord, Thank You for the many people who have expressed their love toward me. Bless them. Open my eyes to see people I can share Your kindness with each day. Amen.
