Walking on Water
By Carolyn Dale Newell

And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.  But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; And beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”  >Matthew 14:29b-30 NKJV

It was a stormy night, as Jesus walked across the billows toward the fearful disciples.  Peter was always courageous in the presence of Christ, and despite the storm, he wanted to walk on water, also.  He stepped out of the boat and began walking on water.

In the midst of the storm, Peter was miraculously defying the laws of gravity.  He was doing the impossible, until he looked away from Christ, and he saw the storm.  That is when he started to sink.

Perhaps you have been there: walking on the water.

Jesus was bringing you through some type of storm.  The wind was raging.  The waves were tossing, but Jesus had you walking on the water in the midst of your storm.

You felt peace and joy when it seemed impossible.  You saw how grace and mercy strengthened you when you were weak.

Then you took your eyes off Jesus.  You looked at your world being ripped apart.  Fear gripped your heart.  Worry tormented you, and like Peter, you began to sink into despair.  The storm was swallowing you up.

Peter cried out, “Save me”, which has been called the shortest prayer in the Bible.

Friend, we have all had those moments when the storm torments us, and that is when we put our eyes back on Christ.   We can cry out to the Master of the sea.

Jesus Christ will save you from drowning into a sea of anxiety or fear.  He will stretch out His arm to you, and He will walk through the storm with you.  He will not leave you there to drown.

Keep your eyes on Jesus!

Read Matthew 14:22-33.

According to verse 31, what is the key to navigating storms?  Are you in the storm now?

Cry out to Christ, and put your eyes on Him.  Every time the winds howl to grab your attention, focus on Christ instead.

Lord, save me!  Help me always focus on You because You are greater than any storm.  Amen.
