I Like Change, but Only if Things Stay the Same

I the Lord do not change.  So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.  Malachi 3:6 NIV

He was very ready to go and he even had a countdown until he left for college.  I, on the other hand, was trying to cram in as many family activities as possible before he left at the end of the summer.  Things were about to change in our house and my mind had mostly accepted it, but my heart wasn't quite ready.

I don't like change and this was going to be a big one.  Knowing we had raised Nathan well and given him a great foundation helped to ensure that launching him into the world and off to college was going to be an exciting moment.  Still, it was something new and I wasn't sure about it.

In my "not so sure about this" moments (and there are still many of those!), I look to Scripture to remind me that the Lord never changes.  He is always the same and I can count on Him to be there, stand strong and be secure in the face of the changes this world sends my way.

It's comforting and so reassuring that the God who created the Universe also tells us that He will not change His mind (Psalm 110:4).  We have the promise that He is looking out for us and that the plan He has for us is the best for us and will not change because He got it perfect the first time.

What comfort that is, especially in a world where we sometimes second guess our decisions.

Changes are something we all face.  Some we plan for and look forward to, while others hit us out of the blue and seem to knock us for a loop.

The Lord knows every change we will face in life and He has every curve in the road mapped out for us.  Our emotions may take some time to catch up, but we know He has the scheduled as well as the unanticipated moments under His control.

Change can be uncertain and unsettling and cause us to feel out of control.

If you find yourself in the midst of changes that have upended your world it's helpful to remember Who is in control and ask the Lord to guide you as you accept the change that's happening.

Ask Him to show you if the situation is from Him and is in His will and if not, how to make it right.  Ask Him to soften your heart if you are feeling it hardened toward this new situation and above all, ask Him for the peace that only comes from Him.

Gracious Heavenly Father, sometimes facing something new is hard and can feel so scary! Some people relish change and embrace it, but others of us feel fearful and uncertain about new situations. Please Father God, help us to get on our knees before You and trust you with our life and know You have it all under your control. Please take away all anxiety and fear and replace it with hope and trust when we are in Your will. Thank you for your protection as we live our lives for you. Amen!
