New Windows
By Dawn Neely

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face, now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:12 NASB

I recently had the windows replaced on the front of our house. The two windows in the middle of my house are long windows set in three frames. The middle frame, which is the largest of the three has been leaking for some time.

Because of the manner in which the window is made, condensation buildup was between the two panes, causing a cloudy mist to always be present. I could not wash it away because it was inside the glass. No matter how I tried to make the window look presentable, I could not clear away the fog.

Yesterday my new windows were installed. As the repairmen left, I raised the blinds on my windows and actually had a feeling of euphoria! The glass was so clear! It was beautiful! I could see so clearly! Even sitting across the room, I could admire the view and marvel at how long my vision had been marred by the fog.

I think this is how it will be in heaven. All the questions we have had, all the struggles we have endured, the heartbreaks, disappointments, illnesses and financial setbacks will be understood in the light of Christ’s presence. The disagreements, the struggles to truly forgive, the unfairness of life will pale in comparison to being in heaven with God.

Have you ever said, as I have, “When I get to heaven I am going to ask God…?” I think there will be no need for that. The scriptures tell us we will “know fully” what we have only known “in part.” We will have a new window in which to gaze and we all will be “fully known.” Only then will we understand that God did all things well.

“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!

How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!

Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?

Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?

For from him and through him and to him

Are all things.

To him be the glory forever! Amen” Romans 11:33-36

Dear Father God, You have made us so You understand our struggles to figure things out. Teach us to rest in You and to always remember that You are on Your throne. Help us to rejoice in worship, believing that Your will and ways are just and good. Right now we can only see a glimmer of Your plans, but we love You for what we understand and for the mysteries we cannot fathom. To You be the glory forever! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
