Investing with Seeds
Read Galatians 6:7-8
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.
How is “sowing to please the Spirit” like making an investment in the kingdom?
Every financial advisor will tell you that investing is wise. In the simplest terms, if you put a little money into a good investment, the money grows into more money. Then, you can take a little bit of that money to reinvest, and it becomes even more money.
Farmers also make investments but with seeds. They take little seeds, sow them, care for them, and then they reap a harvest. From that harvest are seeds that they can use to plant and reap again and again. It’s an investment with the potential for a great return.
Jesus has offered us the opportunity to make investments, too. But these are spiritual investments. We can make spiritual investments with our money, of course. We sow our money in the Spirit to support those who share the Word (missionaries, pastors, etc.). The harvest is reaped in believers who then sow more seeds themselves. The return is a spiritual harvest that goes on and on. When we sow our money in the Spirit, we are investing in the kingdom!
But money isn’t the only thing that we sow in the Spirit. No matter what we do, we either sow in the flesh, or we sow in the Spirit. When we sow in the flesh, we are sinning. Sin is a bad investment. When we sow from our own corruption and evil desires, we reap even more corruption and evil desires. Eventually, this leads to our complete destruction.
But when we sow to please the Spirit, we are walking in step with Spirit and obedient to Lord. When we do this, we can expect to reap an abundantly blessed everlasting life. Sowing in the Spirit is the best investment we can make because the return far exceeds our imagination and lasts for all eternity.
Friends, how are you “sowing in the Spirit?”
Lord, I want to invest in Your kingdom. Take my tithe, time, and talents to grow Your kingdom. Thank You for the hope of my eternal reward. Amen.
