The Journey with Ron Moore

Ignite! | Proverbs 16:9 | Devotional

Proverbs 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps.

Okay, here was my plan. Get married, a year teaching and coaching while Lori finished college, four years in seminary and then…work in church—the hope of the world. Well, Lori and I did get married, I did teach and coach for a year, I finished seminary and then…nothing, notta, zilch…no church opportunities at all! So I waited.

I waited and waited. For four years I waited. During that time I took a job teaching and coaching at a K-8 public school outside of Dallas. Each year I thought would be my last. As I waited, I went back to school to get my Masters in Education. As I waited, I preached each weekend at a little church about 90 miles north of Dallas just over the Red River. As I waited, we bought a house and had two children. As I waited, I wondered if I missed His leading. As I waited, I wondered why I had gone to seminary. As I waited, with the desire of ministry still burning in my heart, I wondered why God was not answering my prayers. Finally, after 4 ½ years of waiting, God opened the door for us to come to Pittsburgh and what was then St. Clair Bible Chapel.

Some of you are in the waiting process. I know it is not easy. I know doubts will come. Frustration will fill your heart. Hey, I will admit it…I got a bit peeved at God. But I learned through waiting that I didn’t miss His calling, I just missed His timing. I had some things He needed to teach me. In His timing He opened the doors. He’ll do the same thing for you.
