Grace Receivers | Philemon 1:4-7
Philemon 1:4-7 I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers, because I hear about your love for all his holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus. I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in deepening your understanding of every good thing we share for the sake of Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.
Man, who wouldn’t want be described in such a way? Philemon was clicking on all spiritual cylinders. Check it out. His life of faith was publicly demonstrated. He had a love that extended beyond just those in his small group. He was the type of guy Paul wanted sharing the gospel. Philemon’s fruit encouraged Paul and gave him great joy. Philemon lived and acted in ways that “refreshed” the lives of those around him.
That’s what happens when grace receivers live beyond themselves. They love to share with others, help others in need, and lift up a person who is down. A visit to the lonely is not a chore, but a joy. A meal for a family in need is prepared with great love which makes everything taste good. Encouragement oozes from the written card. Resources are not used for bigger, better, faster, but to help those in a difficult situation or going through a tough stretch. When grace receivers become grace givers, they refresh “the hearts of the saints.”
Man, who wouldn’t want to be described in such a way?
Father, may we be those who refresh the hearts of those around us. Help us to build up; not drag down. Help us to be grace givers of encouragement and joy. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
