Peace on Earth . . . starting at home!
Today’s Truth
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
1 Corinthians 1:3
Friend to Friend
As the holidays approach, do you conjure up happy visions of family togetherness or does the mere thought of the days ahead squelch your joy with random thoughts of skirmishes on the home front ignited by explosive tempers and stretched nerves! With an extra helping of stuff to do during this season, you need to make a determined effort to slow down and softly embrace the days ahead. This can be your year of starting a new tradition in your family . . . a tradition of everyone truly glorifying Christ and spreading some Holy cheer!
I want to encourage you and spur you on by reminding you that it’s not mostly about you! Nope you don’t have to be the one to keep everybody together and at peace as you shop, bake, and prepare for parties and family gatherings. I know it seems so, many times. But the reality is – you’ll be much more likely to hold on to your sanity during the busy days ahead if you keep close to your Lord! And when YOU’RE together (spiritually and emotionally), your family will eventually follow suit. Well, maybe not exactly like you, but you’ll definitely see improvement.
For whatever reason, the woman seems to regulate the attitude thermostat in the home. Peace and joy are discovered by pulling away from everyone else and spending quiet moments with Jesus. For me, there’s no other way to get my attitude back on track. It’s a God-thing. He will bless you by overflowing you with His glorious presence when you make time with Him a priority during the hectic days ahead, especially when you “don’t have time!”
Let’s Pray
Lord, help me. I want to honor you by manifesting your love during the holidays. I want my family to see you, hear you, and experience you, through me. Help me as I kick-off a new family tradition filled with love, joy, and peace. Yes please, lots of peace!
Now it’s Your Turn
1) Spend quiet moments with Jesus. Start TODAY asking Him to prepare your
heart for the holidays.
2) Keep it simple. Scale back in shopping, baking, and decorating. This will alleviate
stress and redirect your focus.
3) Remember what’s important. Lots of family, laughter, and togetherness will help you
create some new holiday memories for the years to come.
More from the Girlfriends
Dear Friend, as I write about experiencing joy and peace during the holidays, I know that the days ahead will be a challenge for all of us. Life’s busy, and especially so during the last two months of the year. Know that your Lord wants this for you more than you do; and if you’ll commit the days ahead to Him, He’ll jump at the chance to overflow you with an abundance of Himself – and He’s all you need!
