The Greatest Book

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. - (Psalm 119:105)

The Bible is the most amazing book that has ever been written. It is literally God’s message to us. Technically speaking, the Bible is actually 66 books, written together over a 1,500-year span. It was penned by 40 different authors from every walk of life, ranging from kings to peasants, from philosophers to fishermen, from poets to statesmen and scholars. Each of them was inspired by God to write down those words.

In fact, 2 Peter 1:20–21 says that “no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” The Bible is inspired by God.

And 2 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”

In the pages of these Scriptures are the greatest stories ever told. By “stories,” I don’t mean once-upon-a-time stories. I don’t mean fairy tales. I don’t mean fables. I don’t mean myths. I am talking about documented historical events. And the greatest story ever told obviously is the story of the birth, the life, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus from the dead.

However the Bible is not merely a historical book, though it is that. It is not just history; it is His story. And it is your story, too. Because as we look at some of the stories in the Bible, we find ourselves in them.

Martin Luther said, “The Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays hold of me.”

We read the Bible to know God. And we read it to get a better understanding of God’s plan for our lives.

Pastor Greg’s newest book, Hope will be sent to you in appreciation for your gift to Harvest Ministries this month.

“The Bible speaks of a blessed hope that Christians possess—a hope that can function as an anchor for our little boat in the midst of a stormy sea. It is the only hope that will never disappoint: hope in God and in His Word. Hope is a great book to use in reaching out to people you know who are facing those hard situations. It’s also a great way to prepare for times of difficulty in your own life.” --Greg Laurie

Hope, provides biblical teaching about hope for those who have lost loved ones, those with hurting marriages, those with prodigal children, those who are lonely, and more
