Stepping Out in Faith When You're Afraid - iBelieve Truth: A Devotional for Women - May 29, 2025
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
To be completely honest, I have been having trouble lately choosing faith over fear. It feels as though fear always gets the best of me and prevents me from doing many things. Fears about what others will think about me or that they won’t like me have stopped me from trying to make new friends or going to a new church. I reason that since people have been mean to me in the past, there is no reason to expect anyone in the future to be any different.
Stepping out in faith can look different for different people. Sometimes stepping out in faith might just be trusting God when you feel you should take a different way home from work, or it could be trusting God with a major career change. Stepping out in faith can be scary in itself, yet it can help us eradicate fear in our lives. The more we step out in faith, the less of a hold fear will have in our lives.
Fear is a word that many of us are too familiar with. It has the ability to destroy our lives and make us feel diminutive. God does not want us to live with these types of feelings. He wants us to be strong, courageous, and free from fear because He is our mighty God. Nothing in this world is stronger than Him, which can help us step out in faith.
When we step out in faith, we must remember that we are not walking out in blind faith—we are walking out in the sure promise of God being with us. He is completely reliable, trustworthy, and dependable. We are never lacking in support and care when it comes to God. There is no reason to be afraid because God is with us every step of the way.
Blind faith is dependent on not knowing the basis of your faith. As Christians, we are stepping out in the promise of God and the truth that He loves us. In other words, the basis of our faith in Jesus. This can propel us to know that we are never far away from God nor out of the safety of His mighty hand. Whenever you are stepping out in faith, rest in the peace that you are walking out in the truth of the Lord.
The power, protection, and safety of the Lord are with you at all times. You can have faith in Him because He has proven Himself faithful.
Isaiah 41:10 highlights the truth that we don’t need to be afraid or dismayed because God is with us. God promises that He will strengthen us and uphold us by His mighty hand. Since we know this is to be true, we don’t need to worry when we are stepping out in His Name. His Name will protect us, strengthen us, and guide us.
When you are afraid, turn to Isaiah 41:10. Rest in this passage and find comfort in its words. These are the true words of God, and they will offer healing to your bones. All of us will have to step out in faith at some point in our life as this is what God calls us to do. When He calls us to step out, we need to step out confidently and know that He is the One who is holding us.
Why is God calling you to step out in faith today? Maybe it's applying for a new job, joining a mission board, or trying to help someone come to know Him. Bring the matter before God and trust Him with the outcome. Boldly step out in faith and rest in the knowledge that He will be with you. You are not stepping out in blind faith—you are stepping out in the power and love of the Lord.
No matter what you are facing today, know that nothing is too big for God. He will turn mountains into flat lands. Step out in faith, without fear, and full trust in the Lord. Never will He let you fall.
Let's pray:
Dear Jesus, stepping out in faith is terrifying. I’m afraid if I step out in faith that I will fall. Please help me to know I can always trust You and rely on You. You are my mighty Redeemer and Savior. Lord, surround me with your protection, love, and guidance. I’m choosing to step out in faith today because I know You are faithful. In Your Name, I pray, Amen.

If you've been feeling tired, overwhelmed, depleted, or just quietly wondering where God is in the middle of a very full life — this episode is for you. And honestly? It might be for me too, because I'm recording this in one of those seasons myself.
Today we're doing something a little different. Instead of going deep in a passage, we're talking about what to do when deep feels like too much — when you need less, not more. Specifically, I'm walking you through one of my favorite practices for weary seasons: handwriting scripture.
Not typing it. Not scrolling past it. Actually writing it out, slowly, in your own hand — because something happens in your brain when you do that. The words land differently. They go deeper. And over time, they become part of that personal library of God's voice that the Holy Spirit can pull from when you need it most. That's what Psalm 119:11 means when it says I have hidden your word in my heart — it's scripture moving into your long-term memory, where it lives and stays even when you haven't opened your Bible in weeks.
I'm sharing the five verses I wrote out for myself today — and why each one hit me fresh even though I've known some of them for years.
