24 Prayers for Your Husband to Pray Each Day

Years ago, I decided to consistently pray for my husband. While that sounds really mature and wonderful, the choice was a selfish endeavor, though I thought I was being helpful. In my immaturity, I wanted a few things to change in my marriage, so I called on the Lord to change them. It's funny how I discovered the one who needed to change was ME! Ever been there?

Through God’s work in my heart, I discovered the importance of praying for my husband and the power of praying for him. Over the years, God has shown me his work in my marriage through prayer time and time again.

We hope you enjoyed these prayers for your husband! As a recap, these are the ten areas we have prayed for:

  • Your husband takes great pride in his work. It provides fulfillment and satisfaction for his purpose. While you speak words of encouragement to your husband over his work, praying for your husband's job and career is the greatest encouragement you can offer.
  • In saying a daily prayer for your husband's full person - you can ask God to protect and bless all of his undertakings.
  • We all face some shame and pain from our past choices. Whether you know the issues or not, why not offer a short prayer to heal your husband's heart?
  • Your husband steps into a world each day that tries his faith and tests his resolve. Praying for your husband's courage will help him to stand boldly in God's love and to make the right decisions.
  • Even if your husband does not have a leadership role in the workplace, he is called by God to be a leader in your home. Pray for your husband's role as a leader and that you can rest in trusting that leadership.
  • God provides for us when we cry out to Him, and He provides wisdom when we seek financial help. Pray for your husband to submit to God's will for your finances and to trust the provision of God. Scripture tells us to guard our hearts above all else. (Proverbs 4:23).
  • Remind yourself daily to pray over your husband's heart - that it would be soft to the leading of the Lord. Our tongues carry the power of life and death.  Pray that your husband would realize the power of his words in your relationship and in your home.
  • The company your husband keeps will either raise him up or bring him down. Pray that your husband would be surrounded by Godly examples that will encourage his faith and that he would be protected from any negative influences that would seek to take him from the will of God.
  • Whether you have children or not, you can pray over your husband's fatherhood or prepare for him to be one. Ask God to help your husband reflect the true love of our Father in heaven.

Bonus Prayers for Your Husband

For even more ways to pray over your husband, we have collected a few of our favorites below. Praying for your husband will build your own faith and draw you closer to God. These prayers are simple and you can use them to guide your own meditations and words.

A Gratitude Prayer

I just want to thank You for giving him to me and me to him. You knew what You were doing all along. His traits that used to drive me crazy are now the strengths that fill in where I struggle. His traits that used to seem like weaknesses are now the places You’ve allowed me to shine. We complement each other. When I let You be the glue, we’re stronger together than we ever were apart. Thank you for putting my husband in my life.

A Prayer for Your Husband's Strength

When my husband gets tired and beaten down, will You be his strength? Will you renew his spirit with your own? From the time he wakes up to the time he goes to sleep, give him what he needs to be the husband, father, employee, and friend You want him to be. If he feels like giving up, show him a reason to keep going. Bless Him every day and remind him he’s never alone.

A Prayer to Keep Your Husband Him Safe

Lord, I finally love this man you’ve given me the way I’m supposed to—with all my heart and soul. I want to do life with him, grow old with him, rock grandchildren with him. Bring him home to me every time he leaves. Walk ahead of him. Keep him safe—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Take care of him.

Prayer for to Love Each Other Like Christ

Father, your greatest command was to love You and love each other (Matthew 22:36-40). You’ve given marriage as a holy relationship that reflects our relationship with You. Show us how to follow your example and set aside our selfishness and pride and humbly serve each other. Help us to be of one spirit and of one mind and value each other above ourselves, looking out for each other’s interests (Philippians 2:2-4). In the midst of our busy lives, help us take time to love each other deeply from the heart, as you have loved us (Ephesians 5:1-2). May the love we have for each other be an example to the world of how You love them and gave Your life for them.

A Prayer to Forgive Each Other Quickly

Father, enable us to forgive each other as You have forgiven us. Help us not to hold onto bitterness, keep records of wrong, or allow the enemy any foothold in our relationship. Keep our hearts sensitive to You and each other, and move us to the work of reconciliation quickly. When we are wounded, help us be honest with each other and not fear retaliation. Help us to work through our differences in a way that honors You and strengthens our relationship. Help us grow in humility and recognize when we have wounded each other. Give us Your strength to ask for and give forgiveness.

A Spiritual Warfare Prayer for Marriage Restoration

Lord God, we can no longer remain stagnant in our marriage. Yet we can’t move forward, and we refuse to go backward. Our relationship feels broken like an old fashioned phonograph needle stuck on the same groove. So we are reaching out to You. Protect us from becoming another divorce statistic. In the name and through the blood of Jesus Christ, we resist our enemy who wants us to end this marriage. Lord, we ask You to rebuke the devour who is trying to rip apart the beautiful covenant began in us as a couple. We run to You, our Defender and Protector, our Refuge and Shelter in the time of trouble. We declare in the name of Jesus that our enemy, the devil, has no right to interfere in the sacred building of our relationship because You live in us and You are greater than the one who roams around looking for victims to destroy.

We know it is Your will to pray and believe for the healing of our marriage, and we are willing to work on it together. We stake our lives on Your promise, Lord, that when we trust in You with all our heart, You will direct our paths. You have connected our two spirits in oneness and cemented them with the bond of Your Holy Spirit. And what God has joined together, we give no room for our enemy to bring division. Your Word brings us truth, and wearing the spiritual armor You have given to us, we will fight for our marriage with You as our Supreme Warrior and Commander, and the third strand in our relationship together. In the precious and powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen. (excerpt provided from 3 Hopeful Prayers for Marriage Restoration by Rebecca Barlow Jordan)

A Prayer to be a Praying Wife

Lord, I admit that some days I wish You would just fix my marriage and would start with my husband. There are days when I feel he is the problem, when I wish he realized how much he frustrates me. Maybe if he realized this, he would change and our marriage would get better. But, Lord, sometimes I wonder if he thinks the same things about me. God, the most powerful tool You have given us to improve our marriages is prayer. Help me bring my husband before You daily. God, I want to be a wife who acknowledges that her husband deserves her prayers. He deserves a wife who continually intercedes on his behalf —not so that You will fix him, but so that You will bless him, walk beside him, and know what is most important to his heart. God, no matter what my prayer life was like when my husband and I first fell in love, help me see the purpose and the power in praying now. You are so faithful to answer when we call, and right now I just place my marriage at Your feet. Continue to guide me as I remember what it means to be a praying wife. Help me choose to walk in love always. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen. (excerpted from How to Pray for Your Husband -  Love Unending by Becky Thompson)

6 Scriptural Prayers for Husbands

Father, give my husband a discerning heart to know Your great love for him and the great plans You have for him and our family. Plans to prosper and not to harm, to give us hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Father, give my husband the mind of Christ, saturate it with godly wisdom. Help him to take every thought captive that is not in obedience to Your Word, and in so doing protect him from pride and temptation. (1 Corinthians 2:16, 2 Corinthians 10:5)

Father, open the eyes of my husband's heart to understand Your Word, so that he won't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of his mind so that he may know Your good, acceptable and perfect will for his life and our marriage. (Romans 12:2)

Father, help my husband to trust in You with all his heart, not depending on his own understanding, but acknowledging You in all his ways, so he knows what direction our family should take. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

Father, may the favor of the Lord rest on my husband. Bless and establish the work of his hands and his heart. (Psalm 90:17)

Father, help us to live together in perfect unity by loving, honoring and respecting one another and serving each other for Your glory, honor and praise! (1 Thessalonians 5:13)
