5 Beautiful Prayers to Lift Up Your Sister, Whether She Is Close or Far Away

I’m the baby. Yes, I am the third child born to my parents. I have two older sisters; one is 12 years older than me and one 17 years older than me. Three daughters in our family. I am thankful to share a prayer for my sister. Prayers for both of my sisters are an important part of the day.

My sisters and I are blessed with a loving connection that grows every day. I am thankful God gave me two amazing sisters. I value their wisdom, compassion, and how they share the love with others. The three sisters have unique and distinct personalities. God created each of us and gave us special gifts and talents. I am blessed by the ways my sisters show their love for the Lord.

How Do I Pray for My Sister?

Every person has unique happenings in their daily life. One way I draw close to God is through prayer. Praying for my sisters opens the door to communication and a relationship with Him. I am thankful God has given me two sisters. God allows me to learn from them every day. Following their examples of compassion, kindness, and love, I am able to share His love through words and actions.

When there are specific needs for prayer, those prayers come first. As I share time with the Lord, I ask Him to cover my sisters with His hedge of protection and to guide them along their day. Asking the Lord to protect my sisters and give them peace and comfort, reminds me of how much God loves His children.

Morning, noon, night, or anytime, God is listening. When there is an urgent need for prayer for medical issues, I can pray the words about those concerns. If prayer for stress or worry is needed, I ask the Lord to provide the comfort and peace only He can provide. When joy and praise are shared, I go to the Lord and thank Him for those blessings.

Going to the Lord in prayer brings comfort for the person praying. Knowing God will answer in His way and in His timing can give peace. Here are 5 uplifting prayers for my sister:

Prayer for My Sister's Peace

Heavenly Father, thank You for my sister. I am thankful for the bond we have and the ways we share our joys and concerns with each other. I lift up this precious sister. Please cover her with Your hedge of protection. Please fill her with the peace and comfort only You can provide. Thank You, Father, Amen.

Prayer for Sister Bond

Father, You have blessed me with a sister. We have cried together. We have laughed together. We continue to learn from each other. Even though we don’t live close to one another, we are bonded forever. Whether we talk every day or not, the love we have for each other grows and strengthens through You. I thank You that when I need my sister, she is ready to listen and comfort me. I pray I am always available when she needs me. Please bless my sister and remind her of the love You have for her. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for Sister's Health and Happiness

Dear God, Thank You for my sister. We don’t live in the same area and it’s sometimes hard to travel to visit. I pray that my sister and her husband are healthy and happy. Please show them how much they are loved by You. Allow their days to be filled with peace and joy. Give them opportunities for laughter and to grow closer to You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Prayer for My Sister's Protection

Heavenly Father, Thank You for my family. Thank You for my sister. I am comforted to know I can contact her at any moment, and she will be ready to listen and comfort me. She is a woman of God. She shares her heart and soul with the world, in hopes of drawing others closer to You. I lift up my sister to You and ask You to protect her physical, mental, and spiritual health. I pray she will know how her words and actions have allowed me to find a closer relationship with You. Help my sister to know she is loved and cherished. Amen.

For All Sisters in Christ

Father, I lift up my “sister in Christ.” She is always helping others with her kindness and compassion. Please give her strength and stamina as her days are filled with activities and a long to-do list. Protect her, guide her, and remind her of Your love and glory. Thank You for this precious sister. Amen.

Whether you have a sister living close by, or a sister who lives far away, remember to lift her up in prayer every day. Write a note, make a phone call, send a text, or visit your sister in person. Share conversation and prayer time. Thank your sister for the ways she has influenced your life.

Sometimes we get caught up in the busyness of the day and forget to thank the ones we love.

I want to say a special “thank you” to my two wonderful sisters, Glenda and Carol.

What Are Some Memorable Sisters from the Bible?

Scripture shares about some of the lives of sisters. The Bible tells of two sisters named Martha and Mary. Each sister chose a different way to welcome Jesus into the home (Luke 10:38-42).

Mary sat at the feet of Jesus and listened to what He said. Martha wanted the house to be perfect. She chose to make the home clean and ready for Jesus. We learn the lesson of what is truly important to Jesus. He tells Martha that she is worried about many things. Mary has chosen to listen to God. Imagine the scene described in Scripture. Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus and Martha running around trying to make the home look nice. Both sisters were preparing for the arrival of Jesus, yet, in different ways.

Another Scripture shares how the mother of Jesus and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, were there at the crucifixion (John 19:25). A family filled with heartache as they witnessed their dear loved one on the cross. These two sisters stood together and watched as Jesus was hung on the cross and crucified. Imagine how they may have held each other close as they witnessed that event.

How Can Christians Bless Their Sisters?

Have you heard the words “sisters in Christ”? We have the opportunity to pray for and bless our biological sisters and those women whom we call “sisters in Christ.” There may be no physical connection, yet the bond of sisterhood can be found in sharing time, conversation, fellowship, and prayer. Sisters are of all ages, and we are given the way to bless those sisters through our relationship with God.

Praying and asking God to bless our sisters and to cover them with His love and protection can bring peace and comfort. Whether we share the prayers out loud with our sisters, pray them quietly or write the prayers, God knows our hearts and He will answer according to His plan.

Asking God to bless our sisters and “sisters in Christ” opens the door for everyone to draw closer to Him.
