Come To My Table Lord
Dori J. Plucker
I hope you are enjoying the Girlfriends in God daily devotions. We (Mary, Sharon, and Gwen) would like to introduce you to some of our special friends. From time-to-time, the Friday devotions will be written by one of our friends in ministry. We call them our "Friday Friends." So grab your Bible and a fresh cup of coffee and drink in the words from our "Friday Friend", Dori Plucker.
Today’s Truth
Mark 10: 13-16(NIV) says, People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the
Friend to Friend
My friend came into work the other morning telling us all about the basketball camp that he and his son had attended over the weekend. He explained that the players from
He went on to explain that one afternoon they were about to have lunch together and his son spotted some players sitting across the room. He excitedly said; “Dad, can we invite them to our table?!” My friend said that he would have felt awkward approaching them, so he told his son to leave them alone and to just wait right there at the table and he would go get their lunch. He walked across the room and by the time he turned around with their lunch tray in his hands, all he could see was his son walking back to their table with wide eyes, a huge smile from ear to ear, and two very tall basketball players, one each side of his son. They were carrying their lunch trays too! His son yelled out, “Dad, can you believe this?!”
They all settled down at the table and the boy talked on and on to the players as though he had known them his whole life. He told them all about his pet snake and everything that was on his mind about basketball. The players listened to him with great intent and with smiles on their faces. It all seemed so normal to the child, but his dad sat there in amazement the whole time. He thought to himself how amazing it was that his son was so comfortable and at ease talking to these guys. What a great weekend it turned out to be. One that neither one of them would soon forget, especially his son. This he was sure of.
Let’s Pray
Lord, please remind me that You are always here for me and that You long for my fellowship with You. Help me remember to believe in You like a small child and remind me that You will always listen intently to whatever is in my heart or on my mind. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Now It’s Your Turn
Take a moment each day to invite Him to your table, share everything with Him, and open your heart to hear whatever He says to you throughout the day. When you get an answer, I bet you too will say, “Wow! Can you believe this?!”
More from the Girls
Many times, we don’t even think about talking with God. We feel awkward, like our problems, or even our victories are too little to share with Him. We must shed our adult doubts and truly believe like a child, that we have a friend that longs for our fellowship and He is listening with great intent and a smile on His face.
