Iris and Paul both had extremely demanding careers. They managed to spend time together despite their varying schedules and soon married.
After a year of marriage, Paul found Iris had an intriguing habit. Iris accumulated piles of different objects all over the house. In the kitchen, there was a pile of papers and recipe books on the buffet; in the living room was a pile of folded clothes to be put away in one corner and things for the dog in the other; in the den was a pile of training materials and in the bedroom, a pile of clothes to be sorted.
One day after a particularly difficult day, Iris stepped into the house, looked around and felt overwhelmed. When Paul arrived home, he found Iris sitting in the middle of the floor sobbing and muttering something about failing as a housekeeper.
Paul sat down on the floor next to Irish, pulled her close, and reassured her that he loved her just the way she was. He said, “In the scope of eternity, what does a mass or two of stuff matter!” This made Iris laugh and gain perspective. She even decided to take care of at least one heap before bed, with Paul’s help of course.
