Café Menu for Monday, March 9, 2015

Today’s Special is:  Jehovah Nissi The Lord is My Banner

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Amy Carroll

Main Ingredient:

Moses built an altar and called it The LORD is my Banner.

Exodus 17:15 NIV

Entrée:

As I sat in my mentor’s office, I spilled out the problems that faced our women’s event one by one. It was a long list, and I was stressed. Mona, my own resident godly woman, listened and then replied,

Amy, spiritual warfare is real, but don’t let it be your banner. God is your banner.

At first I sat in stunned silence trying to absorb and understand the correction. Finally, I understood what Mona was saying. Our struggle truly is not against flesh and blood (although sometimes conflict makes it seem that way!). Our fight is against Satan and his army, and it’s an intense battle. In the midst of warring, though, we are to hold a banner that declares “The Lord is Victor” over all the fray.

Moses was the first to call the Lord Jehovah Nissi in Exodus 17. The Israelites fought for their lives against the Amalekites while Moses held the staff over his head with his arms supported by Aaron and Hur. Moses experienced the reality that victory in the physical realm is preceded by victory in the spiritual realm. He understood that any victory in life is experienced because it has become the Lord’s battle.

As I returned to my tasks for the women’s event, I experienced a new refreshing and peace knowing that God had already won the victory over every battle I’d face that day. I left Mona’s office ready to pray against Satan’s war tactics while flying a banner of God’s praise over each moment.

Take Out:

How about you? What battle do you face today?

Cry out to Him and wave His banner high. Believe that God has already won! The victory is His!

Dessert:

Lord, help me to recognize spiritual warfare and fight while flying God’s banner over it all to proclaim victory.
