What Are You Going To Bring? - Encouragement Café - October 3

What Are You Going To Bring?
 By Jill Beran

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

“I’m going on a trip and I’m going to bring an apple.” “I’m going on a trip and I’m going to bring an apple and a banana.” “I’m going on a trip and I’m going to bring an apple, a banana and a cow.”

Do you ever remember playing this game as a child? It’s one that brought laughs when I was growing up and has created frustration for my young kids, but recently it’s one that brought insight to my life as a follower of Jesus.

Friend, you and I might not be going on any trips in the near future, but constantly we are walking in faith. Stop with me for a minute and think how you would complete this statement: “I’m walking in faith and I’m going to bring…”

Now, we could go through the alphabet and list our favorite people, but I want to focus on what we truly need – a Bible!

The Bible is God’s Word. It is powerful.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12 ESV

It is also profitable – today’s key verse says,

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV

No matter where today’s journey leads, we need God’s Word. It will comfort and convict, encourage and equip. It is a light for our path and offers hope to our soul.

Today, if you find yourself in a place of joy, the Bible reminds us to be grateful. If the events that unfold bring pain and tears, Scripture points us to our good Shepherd.

If doubt and worry consume our minds, God’s Word brings Truth. If we’re walking uphill and tempted to quit, the Bible offers perspective and encourages us to persevere.

Friend, no matter where you go today, you will take things with you. You take your purse for a reason. And your phone too! Don’t just carry your Bible.

Open it, read it and study it too. Take some time now to hide God’s Word in your heart so that you take it with you wherever you go!

Read Colossians 3:12-15. What wisdom do you gain from this passage? What difference would it make if you applied this insight to your life today?

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that Your Word is powerful and profitable. May I remember to take it with me everywhere I go. Grant me the desire to be in Your Word, give me wisdom as I study and the willingness to apply what I learn. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
