Live Everyday Like Mister Rogers

“… honor your father and mother, and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” Mathew 19:19
In the height of political unrest and division, Mister Rogers became an example of unity and love. You may have seen the video shared across social media outlets where he actively stood against racism and hate. And most of us probably remember the TV show the video clip was taken from. Mister Rogers played a significant role in many of our lives.
Considering he was an ordained minister, it’s possible this arose because of Jesus’ admonition to “love your neighbor as yourself.”
Those exact words appear in seven Scripture verses: Leviticus 19:18, Matthew 19:19, Mark 12:31, Luke 10:27, Romans 13:9, Galatians 5:14, James 2:8. Jesus repeatedly tells us to care for those we encounter like we care for ourselves. We eat, clothe, and give our bodies shelter. We actively seek ways to survive and experience joy. Therefore, according to God, we must endeavor to do the same for others.
Unfortunately, many of us don’t even know the names of our neighbors, or the smallest details of our co-workers’ lives. It seems easier to live our Christian lives inside a church building, where it’s safe to discuss Jesus. But that’s not what He asks of us.
Loving others is a command. Scripture says to show care in all we do, to all we come in contact with.
What holds you back from sharing God’s love and salvation message to those in your neighborhood or workplace? Today, let’s live like Mister Rogers, seeking to make everyone our loved and cared-for neighbor. Let’s seek ways to share Jesus with the world around us.
