What Defines You? – Beloved Women – July 4, 2023

“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man.” - Proverbs 3:3-4 ESV
TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT
While the world insists that what we do defines our success in life, God’s word emphasizes that it has more to do with who we are. Which do currently allow to define you? Your achievements or your character?
In Proverbs 3:3-4, we’re encouraged to bind “love and faithfulness” around our necks. I love how the amplified version of the Bible says it: “Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you].” (Proverbs 3:3a) This is a godly recipe for favor in the sight of God and man!
When we chase worldly success, our lives become exhausting and yield limited, temporal fruit. However, when we choose instead to be defined by love and faithfulness, God does the heavy lifting for us – removing the obstacles that block our path to prosperity. (Proverbs 3:6)
As you strive toward excellence in life, remember that what we do will never out merit who we become in the process.
PRAY
Dear God, thank you that you are more interested in my integrity than my triumphs. Please keep me from obsessing over worldly success and neglecting to embody godly character. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
REFLECT
What have you been binding around your neck lately? What have you been writing on the tablet of your heart? This week, how can you practically ensure that the answer to these questions are love and faithfulness?
