You Can Call Me His
 By Paris Renae

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Romans 8:16

You are not Jessica or Sarah, or Kristen – you are His.

So often we let the world define us – Sarah the one who had an abortion, Jessica the one who got divorced, Kristen the one who is such a goody two shoes.

Oh how the enemy wants you to live in the world, listening to its definitions. Bible study author Sue Edwards tells us,

The next time satan reminds you of your past, remind him of your future.

That’s right. It’s not about yesterday or even this morning. It’s about the moment you said ‘Yes’ to Jesus. From then on, you are His. This defines you now.

An inheritance from some long lost, rich uncle is often a childhood dream. We go over in our heads what we would do with the windfall. For some of us an inheritance of land or money may be a reality, but for many not so much.

My mom left me a ring of some value, I have no idea how much; it was hers, now it’s mine. I would rather have her. Her legacy of devotion and loyalty and love to me are a sweet inheritance that I pray I pass to my own children.

Now if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ. Romans 8:17 NIV

God’s children have all the kingdom, not divided up and doled out. All that is of the kingdom of eternity is ours – always – never to fade, be taken away, fought over.

The world does a great job of making us feel ‘less than’. Instead, see yourself now and some day forever – dancing on the streets of gold and in the presence of the One who chose you. That is worth repeating: chosen!

Who are we: His. Daughters of the Most High King. No matter our past, our current circumstances, whatever the days to come may bring. In all things and in all ways who we are is: His.

Who do you think you are? You know, tell the world: I am His.

We live in a harsh world. It’s easy to lose sight of the promise: this is not all there is. In the midst of hardship, conflict, pride, don’t listen to the lies. Treasure in your heart and keep in your mind’s eye: I am a daughter of the Most High King.

Father, don’t let our pride cause us to forget who we are – and don’t let a world bent on dragging us down with them, whisper lies about who we are. Regardless of where we’ve been, what we’ve done, all our tomorrows – we are secure in You. May Your indwelling Spirit keep our eyes on You and our future. And as we do, guide us in the ways that bring honor to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
