God’s Love Language – Beloved Women – October 16, 2020

READ: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” (John 14:15 ESV)

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT: If someone asked you, “What’s the best way I can show you love today?” What would you say? For me, the answer is easy. Empty the dishwasher. Fold those clothes. All those things speak love to me because my love language is acts of service. Lightening my load makes me feel loved.

Love languages are communication vehicles that relay how we express and receive love. But did you know that Jesus has a love language too? In today’s verse, we see Jesus telling His disciples that their demonstration of love is conveyed when they do what He says. Jesus’ love language is obedience.

Doing what the Lord tells us to do expresses our heartfelt love for Him. And that obedience sometimes comes at a price. It can cost us our pride. It can cost us our comfort. But our radical obedience also puts us in league with greats like Esther and Daniel, and even Jesus Himself who was obedient unto death (Philippians 2:8). Communicate your love for the Lord today in the way He has asked for it and that is with your obedience.

PRAY: My Lord and King, You are gracious, merciful and loving. In fact, Your love abounds toward me. You have called me to express my love to You by keeping Your commandments. Lord, I must admit it isn’t always easy to obey. But by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in me, I am empowered to love You by doing what You say. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray, Amen.

REFLECT: In what area of life have you found it most challenging to obey?
