Reaching the Goal

Jeremiah 30, 31, 33
"I do all things for the sake of the gospel, that I may become a fellow partaker of it" (1 Corinthians 9:23).

It is important to set goals in life. It's just as important to be sure we aren't distracted from those goals.

I have found myself being pulled away from my original goals for Christian Financial Concepts. Fortunately, before I get too far off the field, God usually kind of jerks me back to the center line. My board of directors will ask, "Why are we doing this?"

We had that discussion when we started Life Pathways-the career division. I had to convince them that careers and money go together. If you don't steer people into the right career field, they waste enormous amounts of money in college; they waste numbers of years-some of them their entire lifetime-doing things they'll never be equipped to do well.

I have gotten distracted, though, many times. One thing in particular was the training center we had for a while. I finally was co nvinced that God didn't want us to manage our own training center and all that property, so we put it up for sale.

I do listen to the Lord and when He says "You're off the path," I get back on. You can do things that are good and right for other people to do but still be in the wrong. So, when I sense that, I step back and say, "Okay, God, I understand. I'll straighten that out."

Just as Paul wrote about in his letter to the Corinthians, "Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win" (1 Corinthians 9:24).
