A Two-Edged Sword

Ezekiel 25, 29:1-16; 30, 31
"The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. . . able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).

Tate was driving me to the airport when he told me about a difficult dispute in his company, which had been handled through the reading of God's Word.

He was addressing a meeting of salespeople when they began to argue about sales territories. Just before the conversation became heated and name calling began, Tate reached for his Bible and read the following. "You were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another" (Galatians 5:13).

Tate closed his Bible and, without comment, continued the meeting. The Word of God had gone out, and it did not return void. Even though several of the sales force were not Christians, the Word of God, sharper than a two-edged sword, had cut and convicted them.

A short time after the me eting, a man admitted that their dispute could only have resulted in their devouring each other; but, after hearing God's Word, the argument was settled.

Thank God for Christian businesspeople who are not afraid to be a witness with God's Word. If we don't take this stand and are ashamed of our Savior, we are guilty of hiding our lights-to our own detriment.

Martin Luther said it most succinctly: "The Bible is alive, it speaks to me; it has feet, it runs after me; it has hands, it lays old on me."

Do your coworkers know where you stand concerning God and His Word?
