City-Folk Beware!

Upon entering the little country store in the town he was passing through, the city-man noticed a sign saying "DANGER! BEWARE OF DOG!" posted on the glass door. Inside he noticed a toothless and well-fed old hound dog asleep on the floor besides the cash register.
He asked the old man behind the counter, "Is THAT the dog folks are supposed to beware of?"
"Yep, that's him," he replied.
The stranger couldn't help but be amused. "That hardly looks like a dangerous dog... Did you just put up the sign to scare away thiefs?"
"Nope," the old man replied casually. "But before I posted that sign, people kept tripping over him."
