he continued to complain and she added another sandwich each day until she was giving him fifteen.
This seemed to satisfy him but involved too much time and effort on her part, so she baked a very long loaf of bread, split it lengthwise, spread butter on the inside of both halves, filled in the contents the full length, and thus had the equivalent of fifteen sandwiches.
When he arrived home he glowered at her and said: "Back to one sandwich again, eh?"
