One Less Lawyer

A man in his 50s is in the middle of a desert. He sees . . .
a: A lawyer walking towards him
b: a black widow spider crawling not two feet away from him
c: a rattlesnake speeding towards him
He has a gun with one bullet. What does he shoot?
Some may say the black widow because it's the closest
Some may say the rattlesnake because it's the fastest.
But he did not shoot either of those, he shot the lawyer.
The black widow and the rattlesnake both bit him, but he somehow made it to a nearby town where he was immediatly sent to the emergency room. While the man is fighting for each breath, an almost guarenteed death, his wife comes to visit him and says to him:
"Tell me, why did you shoot the lawyer? Even if you would have only shot one of the critters, you could've had a chance to live."
The man replied: "Honey, the end of my life would've been on it's way anyway. The lawyer was still so young."
Again his wife asked: "But why did you do it?"
The man took in his last breaths and managed to say, in a whisper, "One... less... lawyer..." He then shut his eyes and died in the hospital bed.
This man was truly a good example of how we should be: Always thinking of others before himself."
