How To Overcome Destructive Habits-Part 2

December 5, 2013

Do you have a destructive habit in your life that seems to pull you along like a magnet? Do you feel pulled down? Do you feel driven to disobey what you know God would have you to do? It is like the law of gravity, what goes up, must come down. The law of gravity will never go away although man has learned how to overcome it. We can fly in an airplane. This does not mean that gravity has been eliminated, but has been overcome by an airplane motor. If you were to turn the motor off gravity would pull the airplane straight to the ground and that would be destructive.

You might say, what does that have to do with my habit. My friend, your habit is like the law of gravity. Yes, your habit is a sin and it is pulling you down.

If you truly are a child of God, you have the Holy Spirit living inside of you. He is your airplane motor to keep you above the pull of sin and destructive habits. As you rely on Him, you have his power, as you revert back to your habit you turn His power off in your life and you go down. The choice is all yours. You cannot blame someone else; you control the key. The key is a picture of your human will. Will you stay surrendered to God or will you live as a king or queen of your own life and destiny? Be careful of self-help teachers, those who tell you to think positive, those who take God’s Word out of context; those who smile big and praise “SELF” as your strength to overcome. They are deceived by temporary success. Success can only be found in turning it all over to God and relying on His Holy Spirit inside of you and not mere positive thinking.
