A Morning Song

Psalm 108:1-4, 57:8-11

My dad got up early before anyone else. He would go into the bathroom and with one long blast he would blow his nose.  I can hear him doing this to this day, but I can also hear him doing something else before dawn. He sang! King David did the same.  So dad had strong biblical warrant for his early morning praise.  In fact, twice in the Psalms it tells us about King David’s before sunrise praise service.

“My heart is firm, O God! I will sing, I will make music. Surely, it’s my honor. Awake! With the harp and the lyre I will awaken the dawn.  Give thanks to the LORD among the people. I will sing your praises among the nations because your faithful covenant love is great, above the heavens. Your steadfast truth reaches to the skies.” - (Psalm 108:1-4, 57:8-11)

This reminds me of one of the early songs I learned on the guitar,

“Songs in the day time, songs in the night.
Songs of devotion, songs of delight
Melodies ringing in my heart singing
Jesus gives me a song, Jesus gives me a son.”

Lord, I ask you to give me David’s morning song. It’s easy to want to bury my head under the pillow because I can forget about the challenges of a new day in those extra minutes of sleep. David goes on in this Psalm to express his confidence that you can handle any opponents he might face. I need his God-centered confidence!
