Don’t Mess With The Strong Man

Luke 11:21-23

Code Name “Operation Overlord” –the Allied liberation of Europe began on the morning of June 5, 1944. By June 11th over 326,000 troops, 55,000 vehicles and over 100,000 tons of equipment had landed on the secured beaches of Normandy. Hitler had boasted that he was the “strong man,” that his Third Reich would rule for a thousand years. He was wrong. At D-Day a far stronger army had entered his house and on May 8, 1945 the Allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany and Hitler was dead by suicide.

In the first century Jesus spoke about a far more important invasion. He declared that He had come from heaven to liberate those held captive by Satan. His miracles of healing and exorcisms proved that God’s Kingdom had arrived. Jesus was the fully armed strong man. He had invaded Satan’s territory, and as my friend Darrell Bock points out, “There are no Switzerlands in this war.”

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are secure; but when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor that the strong man trusted and divides his spoils. He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me, scatters.” Luke 11:21-23

Jesus is the Strong Man who can defeat Satan. He equips us with the full armor of God (Ephesians 6) so that we can have victory over the Evil One. In His first coming He established a beachhead in Satan’s territory. His cross, resurrection, and ascension to God’s right hand won the decisive battle against Satan. Check out Colossians 2:14-15 and Ephesians 4:7-10. The strong man’s house has been plundered. The final V-Day is coming.

Just as the French after Normandy had to decide whether they would remain in bondage to the Nazis or help the Allies liberate their country, we all have to decide whether we will unite with Jesus or remain under Satan’s deceptive and murderous control. There’s no neutral ground. It’s enslavement to Beelzebub or freedom with Jesus.

LORD, thanks for the assurance that You have already won the decisive battle against Satan. Therefore, wherever we minister, we can be confident that You will help us to gather souls into Your Kingdom. Destroy Satan’s attempts to scatter.
