The hunger for love is much more difficult to remove than the hunger for bread. – Mother Teresa
The other night, I took my wife out to a restaurant. When the waitress gave us our menus, she raved about the new tilapia dinner they offered.
I am usually game for new things and so I figured I would try it. In the picture, it was golden brown and the caption boasted that it was delicious. The waitress had talked up the dish and so I was really looking forward to it. But the true test of any meal is in the taste, right? It turned out to be very satisfying.
The psalmist points out a feast that truly satisfies the soul:
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. – Psalm 34:8
This is a standing invitation from God Himself for you to experience Him – in every way. Just like a meal, you might hear from other people that a relationship with God is a tremendously powerful and rewarding experience. You might see them going into church or see them interact with other people and think, Man, there is really something different about that guy and I want some of what he's having.
This Christianity stuff smells wonderful, but what is the true test? You don't know it's good until you taste it. And God requests that you urgently approach His table:
... Seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. – Deuteronomy 4:29
He longs for a deep relationship with you. For some unfathomable reason, God wants to be my friend, He wants to be your friend, and He's made it possible for that to happen in Christ. Do you hunger for more today?
Lord God, You have set out a smorgasbord – a feast – for us in Your Word. Help me to continue to get to know Your goodness with my whole heart as I read, meditate, and pray about all that You are and all I am in You. By Your grace, may I taste Your goodness today! Amen.
