So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 NLT
Do you ever feel like giving up? Does life ever get soooo hard that you just want to throw in the towel and quit? I think if we are honest, we all get there from time to time. The job seems too tough, the school work seems too hard, the marriage seems too impossible, the mountain seems too impassable. What is the answer when you feel like quitting? You remember the immortal words of Dr. Jerry Falwell, “It’s always too early to quit.”
A few weeks ago, I ran across the diary entry of John Wesley, the father of the Methodist Church. Wesley was another man who said, “It’s always too early to quit.” Here is what he put in his journal:
Sunday, A.M., May 5
Preached in St. Anne’s. Was asked not to come back anymore.
Sunday, P.M., May 5
Preached in St. John’s. Deacons said “Get out and stay out.”
Sunday, A.M., May 12
Preached in St. Jude’s. Can’t go back there, either.
Sunday, A.M., May 19
Preached in St. Somebody Else’s. Deacons called special meeting and said I couldn’t return.
Sunday, P.M., May 19
Preached on street. Kicked off street.
Sunday, A.M., May 26
Preached in meadow. Chased out of meadow as bull was turned loose during service.
Sunday, A.M., June 2
Preached out at the edge of town. Kicked off the highway.
Sunday, P.M., June 2
Afternoon, preached in a pasture. Ten thousand people came out to hear me.
DON’T GIVE UP!
I don’t know what you are going through, but God does. He says, “Don’t give up!” It may be rough right now, but it is not always going to be this way. Hold firm in your faith. Keep believing God for your miracle and your breakthrough. Keep obeying His Word and submitting to His will. And as you keep on, remember His promise, “At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” Your miracle is one day closer to fruition, so press on in Jesus’ name!
