The Amazing Seed - June 5

  • 2016 Jun 05

The Amazing Seed
God is the one who gives seed to the farmer (2 Corinthians 9:10).
Dear friends:
Seeds are one of the most fascinating and miraculous aspects of God's creation.
Seeds produce life.  Everything begins with a seed. Seeds are like small universes, with great futures mapped out within their molecular and cell structures.
Varying greatly in size and shape, these starters of life can survive for incredible periods.  An orchid seed, for instance, is among the smallest known (requiring a magnifying lens to see it), while the coconut is one of the largest.  Although most seeds can live up to a decade, life spans have been known to range from fifty years to centuries.
Indian lotus seeds have proven to be vital after two hundred years.  Amazingly, live seeds have been discovered in the tombs of ancient Egyptian kings.  Newspaper accounts of the find reported that the seeds were still alive after lying dormant for four millennia.
Did you know that approximately 70 percent of our food comes from seeds like corn, wheat, rice, barley, rye, peas, beans, soybeans, peanuts and oats?  Much of the remainder of our food comes from animals that are fed on seeds.
Our Lord Jesus, the Creator of seeds, frequently mentioned seeds and used them often in his object lessons.  He compared the kingdom of Heaven to a mustard seed, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field.  Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches" (Matthew 13:31-32, NIV).
He also explained another parable to His disciples: "The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.  The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are the sons of the evil one, and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.  The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.  They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.  Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear" (Matthew 13:37-43, NIV).

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
Bill Bright
