A History Lesson

In the late 1800s, many jobs had horrible working conditions: Work days were long, and the pay usually wasnt enough for a family to survive. Yet, many business owners were amassing incredible amounts of wealth!
Many leaders cared more for themselves than for their people. This led to a populist movement which caused a backlash to these wealthy owners.
In Ezekiel 34 God criticizes the Israelite leaders because of the way they cared for themselves, individually, but not their people, collectively. He proclaimed, This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Woe to you shepherds of Israel who only take care of yourselves! Should not shepherds take care of the flock?
As leaders, we need to be sensitive to the pay and working conditions of our staff, as would a good shepherd.
