The Sweetest Word Ever Spoken
“And The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." And let the one who hears say, "Come." And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who wishes take the water of life without cost.”
In a lonely cottage there sat one night, an aged widow, very poor and nearly blind. A Christian lady came to visit one day and during her stay began reading from one of the best of books, hoping to bring some joy into the widow’s day. As she concluded her book, the visitor praised the giftedness of the author and the power of the words he used to make such great literature. The poor widow said, “Ah, there is one word sweeter than all the rest. This word is a song for my darkness. Can you guess what it is?” The visitor replied with great confidence that the word must be Jesus because it is the name above all other names. But the poor widow replied, “no, it is not Jesus, although it is a blessed word, it is not enough for me, unless I know Him for my Savior. It is no comfort for me that He died for sinners unless I know he died for me. The sweetest word for me is the word Jesus speaks to me, ‘come’ because I am His child and He is my Lord. ‘Come’ is my song, my song for the darkness of my world. I can come into the Light of the world even while in my darkness. This is the sweetest word to me.”
When we are faced with the darkness, challenged to the core of faith and standing before our enemies, I’m sure the sweetest word our heart can receive from Heaven in those moments of need is “come”. When we have prayed for so long, struggled to find hope, even requests we make that we are willing to die for, in our times of utter surrender and abandon of life, it is this reply from Heaven that surely is the song in our night. This is Heaven’s acceptance to us declaring that we have the King’s ear and that we have His heart. This is the path of life that is opened before us and a path that gives us an audience with the King.
Do you have an audience with the King of Heaven? If you did, what petition would you make before Him? How would you use the platform of being heard before the most powerful One in the Universe? Jesus’ call to His child will always be, “come”. It’s an open door of grace and provision even in the darkest of nights. Have you answered the bidding of the King?
I have been summoned to go into the king’s presence.
