{the very best days}
an inspirational entry for the college student

Some of my best days I spent in college.

Decorating my dorm space. Pizza at midnight. Boys, football games, and my little red sports car, full of laughing friends.

It was my first taste of real independence, and I loved it more than words.

But while I was busy loving my independence, there were, at times, some things I forgot. The importance of family. My beliefs, morals and standards. Most of all, my Jesus.

College can be an amazing time. It is a rite of passage, which carries with it great privilege. It can be a great time of growth. But it can also be one of the most susceptible times in a young adult's life, as newfound independence can cloud judgments with the allure of fun, freedom, and excess. For that reason, it is vitally important to remember a few things...

1) Remember what's important. Before you started college, you had some things that were important to you. Those things may have included family, friends, faith, church, studies, and other commitments. While some of the things you love may change in college, hang onto what is most important.

2) Value yourself. You are a unique, valuable person. Your body belongs to no one but you and God. Don't let the voice of another, your desire to be loved, or your insecurities from your surroundings convince you otherwise.

3) Hang onto Jesus. Remember what He's done for you. Remember the roads you've walked together. Cling to His promises and seek Him, always. He alone has the wisdom and strength you need to thrive in college...and long beyond.

One of the most beautiful promises in the Bible is found in Deuteronomy 3:18: "The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." It is a verse for the days of college, the journey after, and every day before and in between.

College friend, He goes before you. He will be with you. Embrace your independence, relish your relationships and eat pizza like crazy. But never forget the One who loves you most, sticks around, and is the source of your very life.

Your very best days will always be the ones spent with Him.
