Failure to Serve the Lord!

“For they have not served You in their kingdom, or in the many good things that You gave them, or in the large and rich land which You set before them; nor did they turn from their wicked works.” - >Nehemiah 9:35

God’s people openly repented before God. They had not served the Lord in the Promised Land. He had blessed them with a fruitful and productive land. Moses had warned them of what God had said beforehand:

“Now this is the commandment, and these are the statutes and judgments which the Lord your God has commanded to teach you, that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess…Therefore hear, O Israel, and be careful to observe it that it may be well with you, and that you may multiply greatly as the Lord God of your fathers has promised you—‘a land flowing with milk and honey’ You shall fear the Lord your God and serve Him….” (Deuteronomy 6:1-3, 13).

Joshua led the people into the Promised Land, and towards the end of his life, he carefully instructed the people:

“But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Joshua 22:5).

Yet, God’s people failed to serve the Lord or turn away from their wickedness. What about us? Have we failed to serve the Lord? God has given us good things and wealth. We should not throw away the years of our lives in wickedness or waste our wealth on ourselves. Do you not realize that God wants to use our lives to make a difference in His kingdom?

Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
~Psalm 2:11~
