Eternal Atonement

But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. - >Hebrews 9:11-12

Think of what Yom Kippur means. Translated from Hebrew, it literally means, Day (Yom) of Atonement (Kippur). On the Day of Atonement, the Jewish people would sacrifice animals to cover their sins.

It was the blood sacrifice that provided the covering, but it was a temporary covering. Sacrifices were made at all the feasts. Sacrifices were made on the Sabbath. They were a sinful people, so sacrifices were required to maintain their relationship with the Lord.

Just as the people of Israel were a sinful people, we are sinful people, but we no longer have to make animal sacrifices to temporarily cover our sins. God knew we could not redeem ourselves and the animal sacrifices were not completely sufficient, so He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, as our High Priest, to go to the Cross and pay the price for our redemption.

He is our atonement from sin, not just today but every day. His blood covers us once and for all. He has paid the price for the sins we committed in the past and those we will commit in the future.

Let’s not take that atonement for granted, but live our lives realizing the great sacrifice made for our eternal souls. Jesus paid it all with His blood!

Atonement by the blood of Jesus is not an arm of Christian truth; it is the heart of it.
~C. H. Spurgeon~
