A Prayer When You Feel Worthless
By: Vivian Bricker
Bible Reading:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalm 147:3).
Listen or Read Below:
During middle school, my life changed in the worst way. My teachers and fellow students relentlessly bullied me to the point of tears. Because I didn’t look or act like them, they saw me as inferior.
Due to the bullying, my mom pulled me out of public school, and I began homeschooling in the seventh grade. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done. Within my first year of homeschooling, I developed depression, anxiety, and anorexia. All of these experiences left me feeling completely worthless.
Homeschool brought its own challenges. My two sisters were often praised by my mother for their work, while I was frequently put down. Throughout my school years, my mother never told me she was proud of anything I did. This is a painful reality I’ve had to accept and learn to live with.
To make matters worse, my elementary school friends stopped talking to me, leaving me more isolated than ever. Being treated poorly by people I trusted deeply reinforced my feelings of worthlessness. Although the way others treat me has improved over time, those feelings have lingered.
I’ve gone through therapy to address these wounds, yet it’s still a daily struggle. Feelings of worthlessness often fuel depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. If you’re in the same place, please know you’re not alone.
Some of us are dealt a heavier hand, and we’re left carrying wounds we didn’t deserve. Still, there is one truth we must hold onto: we are not worthless. Scripture reminds us that we are complete in Christ: “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority” (Colossians 2:9-10).
The Bible also tells us that nothing can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:37-39). This truth assures us of our value. Even when others make us feel unloved or unwanted, we can rest in the certainty that we are irreplaceable in God’s eyes.
Psalm 147:3 says, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Feeling worthless can leave our hearts shattered and wounded. If your heart feels broken today, turn to God and allow Him to begin healing you.
God often heals us by reminding us of who we truly are through His Word. The Bible tells us we are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10), fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:13-16), and created in His image (Genesis 1:27).
People will fail us and say things that hurt deeply, but God’s truth remains steady. Listen to what He says about you. Apply His Word, rest in His love, and allow Him to remind you that you are worthy, deeply cared for, and fully loved.
Let's Pray:
Dear God, I have felt worthless for a long time. Because of the wounds others have inflicted, I have questioned my value and struggled to see anything good in myself. People I trusted have made me feel small and unwanted. Instead of confidence, I often feel like I don’t belong and that the world would be better without me.
Please help me reach out for support when these thoughts overwhelm me and teach me to bring my worries to You. Heal my broken heart and bind my wounds. I know nothing is impossible for You. Help me remember that You love me and see me as worthy—because Your opinion is the only truth that matters.
Help me to always remember that I am Your beloved child.
Amen.

In this episode of Talk About That, you will laugh along with stories about children’s books, volleyball mornings, St. Patrick’s Day, and even the questionable legacy of the Power Team, but underneath the humor is a thoughtful conversation about one of the deepest questions of faith: how God truly sees us. John and Jonnie reflect on weakness, mercy, and the struggle many believers feel in accepting that God is not only patient with them, but genuinely pleased to call them His own. It’s an honest, encouraging reminder that our relationship with God is not built on performance, perfection, or “having it all together,” but on His love, grace, and fatherly delight in His children. You'll come away challenged to see yourself less through the lens of self-criticism and more through the steady, compassionate eyes of a God who knows you fully, loves you deeply, and may just be rooting for you more than you realize.
