A Life of Integrity
A Life of Integrity
He knows the way I have taken; when He has tested me, I will emerge as pure gold. My feet have followed in His tracks. (Job 23:10–11)
My husband started a financial services business a few years ago with the mission of helping people grow their money. His heart was to take care of his clients. But the worldwide financial crisis hit, engulfing our little family with it, and consequently, my husband had to close his business. He’s been looking for a job ever since.
In the meantime we took our daughters out of the Christian school they were attending, and my husband began to homeschool them. While this road has been difficult for him as a man—men are wired to work and be breadwinners—I am constantly amazed at the way he works with our daughters, day after day, on math, language arts, science, and history.
Even though he could be bitter at the apparent “no man’s” land he lives in, he puts aside his heartaches and lives each day with integrity. The adult Sunday school class he teaches is growing. People at church seek him out with questions about their portfolios. He is a trusted confidant for several men who are facing life challenges. And he is a deacon and a sounding board for our pastor. And what he is in public, he is in private: trustworthy, honest, faithful, true.
Only God and I see the hurt that lives in his heart, but he continues to hold on to the Lord and to what He has called him to do. His life exudes integrity in the midst of suffering.
Integrity. We’ve heard it defined as the way you live when no one is looking. Even when it seems like God isn’t doing anything about our pain, we must continue to do what we know to do—living honestly, with integrity, for Him.
