Balancing Act

Delight yourself in the Lord, and I will make you ride over the heights of the land, and let you enjoy the heritage of your father Jacob. (Isa. 58:14)

“I wish I could work from home like you do,” Lucy said.

“I’m really blessed, but it’s not always easy getting things done,” I replied. “Jack works at home too, so if I want to get anything done, he has to watch the baby and vice versa. It can really be a balancing act. Sometimes I feel like I work all day because of the way I have to work—an hour or so at a time.”

“Hmm,” Lucy said, “I hadn’t thought about that.”

“But on the positive side, we don’t have to pay for gas getting to and from work or day care.”

“That is such a blessing,” Lucy replied. “My commute has become so expensive.”

“I really wanted to be a stay-at-home mom after Isabel was born,” I said, “but we were having trouble paying all the bills. God answered my prayer by providing a job I can do from home. It can get crazy sometimes, but I know I’m fortunate.”

Lucy nodded. “I can relate to that too. Raising a family and working is certainly a challenge. I’m so glad you found a way to make it work for your family.”

Learning how to balance your time between your family and your job is a learning experience. Seek the Lord’s guidance on how He wants you to schedule your days and how to make everything happen. He knows what is most important, and He’s aware of everything on your plate. As Paul stated in Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.”
