End of My Rope

When the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her and said, “Don’t cry.” (Luke 7:13)

Dawn just wasn’t getting well. She hadn’t skipped a single dose of her medication, she’d rested and drunk plenty of fluids, and I had done everything I knew to do as a mom to help my ten-year-old daughter feel better. But she still looked exhausted and pale. After seven days of tending to her, I felt like a failure as a mother.

As I contemplated taking Dawn to the emergency room, I felt my composure weaken. I was drained physically and emotionally from caring for her all week while also trying to fulfill my other responsibilities. I needed a hug in the worst way, and I desperately longed for my mom and sister who live a thousand miles away.

Suddenly, I began to cry. I started to express my frustrations out loud, weeping all the more. After several minutes of releasing my emotions to God, I felt a gentle reminder work its way into my soul. I’m here, Belinda, and I care. I have noticed everything you’ve been through this week, and I see the pain you’re feeling now. Let Me care for you. I may not have received a hug from my mom or my sister, but Jesus had just compassionately given me the strength I needed in order to continue caring for Dawn.

We humans are frail beings who often feel at the end of our ropes. Thankfully, Psalm 103:14 reminds us we have a Lord who is mindful of our frailties and shows compassion when our humanity gets the best of us. In fact, many of the miracles you recall Jesus performing were prompted by His compassion.

Compassion still moves Jesus to respond to our needs as well. Allow your compassionate Savior to minister to your humanity today.
