Find the Time

He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. When evening came, He was there alone. (Matt. 14:23)

“I want to spend time with God, but I just can’t seem to find the time,” said Leslie to her mentor, Jane.

“I struggled with the same thing when I was in your stage of life,” said Jane, “but if you’re ever going to get to know Him and His heart, you will have to make some adjustments. First, you have to find the time to spend with Him and then show up just as you would for an appointment with your doctor.

“Leslie, tell the Lord of your desire to meet with Him. Ask Him to help you find the right time of day to spend with Him, and then make it a priority. If your best time to be with Him is in the morning, you may have to get up a little earlier and drink a whole pot of coffee before you can even see to read your Bible,” Jane said with a smile. “But if you consistently meet with Him, it becomes a holy habit so that if you skip a day, you miss Him like a friend who has moved away.”

“But what about interruptions?” said Leslie.

“You’ll always have interruptions,” Jane replied. “But most interruptions can be ignored. God will bless your efforts to spend time with Him.”

To grow in our relationship with God, we need to spend time with Him. But sometimes we can’t seem to find the time. Evaluate your schedule. If you’re overwhelmed with all you have to do, maybe some things need to go. Then determine the best time for you to be with the Lord. Make it a priority to protect that time with Him! It is the most important calendar item of the day.
