Globally Minded

Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me. (Matt. 25:40)

When Mandy became a Christian, she thought that being saved was all there was to it. But as she plugged into a church and began to grow through hearing the Word, being discipled by godly women, and getting involved in a Bible study, she realized there was more to the Christian walk than just being saved. She began asking God to give her compassion for the needy.

Mandy saw that many Christians had a heart for various types of mission work around the globe. Several of her friends were involved with child sponsorship through Christian organizations, and some donated to mission work through their local church.

Mandy asked God to show her how He wanted her to help. One evening while researching charitable Christian organizations online, she prayed, Father, the needs are so great, and I’m only one person. Please show me how I can serve You by serving others. Give me wisdom.

Mandy saw opportunities to help children who needed surgery, feed the hungry, educate girls in China, and many others. When she began reading about women and children who had been sold into prostitution, it broke her heart. She decided that she would contribute to an organization that helps to rescue and rehabilitate women and children who have been exploited.

When we look at all the people in need around the world, it’s positively staggering. People drink contaminated water, die from hunger, suffer in brutal wars, live in unspeakable poverty, are victims of human trafficking—the list is practically endless. But we serve a big God, and He doesn’t ask us to solve all the world’s problems. He just asks us to do our part. So if you feel that God wants you to become more globally minded, pray for discernment. And watch God work.
