He Will Make a Way
He Will Make a Way
The man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence indeed is the Lord, is blessed. (Jer. 17:7)
Patricia opened her eyes slowly to the annoying beeps of the alarm clock beside her bed. As usual she began to think through the day ahead but stopped suddenly when she remembered that, as of yesterday, she no longer had a job. She had been “released from her duties” when budget cuts caused the organization to do some extreme and quick reshuffling of personnel. Patricia closed her eyes and moaned slightly as the weight of unemployment fell fresh upon her.
Hearing her cat scratching at the bedroom door, Patricia decided to get up and face the day. But yesterday’s shock had left her numb. She had worked at the same place for more than fifteen years and couldn’t think of another place in her small town where she would want to seek employment.
After Patricia fed the cat and made coffee, she took her coffee mug into the living room and sat down with her Bible. Opening to a familiar psalm, she allowed the words to wash over her, giving her hope and assurance in her sovereign God. She bowed her head to pray and began to anticipate the new path on which God would take her.
Whenever change is thrust upon us, we may be tempted to struggle against the new and cling to the old. But we can be confident that God still has good plans for us, even when we can’t yet see them. God assured His prophet in Isaiah 43 that He would make a way for His people where there seemed to be no way. Likewise, when we encounter difficult changes, we can know that God loves us, is still on His throne, and will make a clear path for us in His time.
