Noah
Noah
You will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous. (Luke 14:14)
Last year my son’s school started a program where parents and grandparents could come in and help the second-graders who were behind their peers in reading. I felt God urging me to help, so I signed up. It turned out to be one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done.
Although I helped three students, I connected with one boy in particular. Noah had light brown hair that was cropped short, and when he smiled, you could see emerging permanent teeth. His laugh was contagious, and he was a sweetheart.
The first time I heard him read aloud my heart broke. We read a book about a trash truck, and Noah had a difficult time pronouncing even some of the most basic words. I could tell he was embarrassed. But I assured him that those words would come more easily in time. Soon his confidence grew, and I saw how positively the individual tutoring helped him. I prayed that Noah and the other children I worked with would realize how precious they are in God’s eyes.
Can you imagine what it would do for a struggling child if you could help him or her in some way? Have you thought about using your special gifts to help children? Maybe you have a gift of reading or writing. Or maybe your gift would be helping them learn to play soccer. Whatever talents and gifts God has given you, be open to using them as He directs. You’ll never know how much you can truly bless others until you step out in faith to serve.
Matthew 10:42 says, “Whoever gives just a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is a disciple—I assure you: He will never lose his reward!”
