After they had fasted, prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them off. (Acts 13:3)

Denise walked around the missions market, excited and encouraged by all of the different ministries represented. It amazed her how sacrificially people could live.

Denise loved hearing their incredible stories of how God worked on the mission field, stories that often told of God’s miraculous interventions in difficult circumstances and how people came to accept Christ. Some of those stories were about how God provided for the missionaries’ needs just as He had provided manna from heaven to the Israelites day by day. The theme of financial need was consistent among all of the missionaries.

Denise, however, was barely able to provide for herself on her Social Security and pension money. After tithing, she didn’t know how she could give any more money and still pay the bills. Prompted by the Holy Spirit, however, she asked one of the missionaries if his family had any needs other than money. She was pleasantly surprised to learn there were many creative ways she could support them.

Though we may not feel called to the mission field, we are still part of what missionaries do and are responsible for sending them out and encouraging and aiding them in their work—God’s work. People often think there are only two ways to be involved in missions: either move to a foreign country or give money to missionaries who serve there. But missionaries have many needs. They need consistent, committed prayer warriors who are willing to pray regularly for them. They desperately need encouragement such as letters, care packages filled with little familiar things from home, Christmas cards, even short phone calls. Maybe you can’t give money, but you can still give a lot. Pray today about how God wants you to partner with His workers in the field.
