Powerful Prayers
Powerful Prayers
There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to people, and we must be saved by it. (Acts 4:12)
Leslie’s friend had written to her in an e-mail: This past Sunday I felt God urging me to call Ava. I responded to that urge; and after we talked a while, I was able to lead her to Christ. She prayed by phone and became a Christian. Years of prayers for Ava had at last yielded the fruit of salvation.
Leslie’s heart was blessed and encouraged as she thought of her own list of lost friends, family members, and even acquaintances she continued bringing before the Lord. She thought especially of her friend Wendy. Their paths had crossed long ago at a conference. In the early days of their friendship, Leslie discovered that Wendy was not a believer.
In the years since, Leslie had stayed in touch. They meet occasionally for a meal or an outing. But most of all, Leslie prays for Wendy. How she looks forward to the day when she can rejoice at her friend’s birth into the family of God!
All of us probably have a list (in our head or on paper) of those we know who need Christ. We should be faithfully praying for the salvation of those on our list. We can also be teaming up with other Christian friends, partnering together in asking God to lead these individuals to Himself. We can seek to put authentic believers and godly influences in their path. We can ask God to bring events into their lives that would cause them to seek Him.
Praying for the lost is a true discipline of perseverance. Sometimes the answer comes quickly; other times we wait for years or never see the fruit of that prayer. But our responsibility is to pray faithfully.
