Praying With Perspective
Praying with Perspective
The Lord is righteous in all His ways and gracious in all His acts. The Lord is near all who call out to Him. (Ps. 145:17–18)
After trying to conceive a child for years, Annie and her husband, Brad, tried various infertility treatments. But nothing worked. Annie confided in me that she felt like her prayers for a child were just bouncing off the ceiling. She wasn’t asking for something outrageous; raising children who love God would be honoring Him. So why wouldn’t He answer with a baby?
Yet His lack of an answer was an answer. Annie and Brad decided that if they didn’t conceive after two years of infertility treatments, they would adopt. They began adoption proceedings, and everything fell into place quickly. Annie and Brad traveled to the Ukraine to pick up their precious miracle: little Jamie. Then two months after they returned from the Ukraine, another miracle: Annie was pregnant. She delivered a healthy little sister to Jamie later that year.
Annie said, “If we hadn’t struggled as we did, we never would have adopted Jamie. Those trials were God’s grace to us even though we didn’t know it at the time. We wouldn’t change a thing.”
Many of us spend years asking God for something, and we don’t always receive the happy answer we hope for. Sometimes God tells us no or calls us to wait on Him. When we feel He doesn’t hear us, we need to return to the truth of Scripture. He does care about each of His children, and He always works for our good and for His glory. Even when we don’t understand God’s answers, we are called to keep trusting Him and believing that He has a purpose and a plan. He is always at work, making us more like His Son.
